Hi there,
We’re the team at Point B Electrical Services, your local, family-run electrical contractor. We’ve been proudly serving our community with honest, reliable electrical work—and over the years, we’ve seen the industry change a lot.
One topic that’s been coming up lately is tariffs—specifically, how they’re driving up the cost of construction materials, especially anything electrical. And while this is a real issue across Canada, we want our customers to know: you’re in good hands.
Thanks to the way we run our business, most of what we use on your project isn’t affected by international tariffs—and that makes a big difference for your bottom line.
💡 What Are Tariffs (and Why Should You Care)?
In simple terms, tariffs are extra taxes placed on goods imported from other countries. Governments use them for all kinds of reasons—trade negotiations, protecting local jobs, or responding to international disputes.
Unfortunately, when tariffs go up on things like steel, copper, or electrical components, it usually means contractors pay more—and that cost can trickle down to customers.
But not at Point B Electrical.
🛠️ We Use Canadian-Made Materials—On Purpose
From day one, we’ve made it a priority to work with Canadian suppliers and use local materials whenever we can. It’s something we believe in—supporting our economy, cutting down shipping delays, and sticking to products that meet Canadian standards.
Here’s what that means for you:
- Most of the wire, conduit, panels, and electrical boxes we install are made in Canada
- We buy from trusted suppliers right here in Alberta and across Canada
- Anything we source from the U.S. is covered under USMCA, meaning no tariffs apply
That’s how we keep our prices fair and our project timelines on track.
⚙️ What Materials Are Being Affected by Tariffs?
In general, tariffs tend to hit products coming in from overseas, especially from China or India. These often include:
- Transformers and switchgear
- Specialized lighting and smart-home tech
- Some solar and EV charging components
- Certain metals like copper and aluminum, if they’re not sourced from North America
Some larger contractors that rely on these imports are feeling the pinch—and unfortunately, their clients are, too.
🧰 Materials We Use That Aren’t Impacted
Here at Point B, most of our day-to-day materials are either Canadian made or tariff-exempt. That includes:
- Electrical wire and cabling (Canadian copper, no tariff risk)
- Conduit and fittings (sourced locally)
- Breakers, panels, and electrical boxes (from Canadian or U.S. brands)
- LED lighting and standard controls (domestically available)
- Fasteners, anchors, and mounting hardware (all sourced through local suppliers)
And even better? We work closely with our suppliers to make sure these materials stay available, affordable, and up to code.
🧡 Why This Matters for Our Customers
At Point B Electrical Services, we know every job matters—whether we’re wiring a basement reno, upgrading a commercial panel, or installing a whole new system.
By sticking with Canadian-made and North American products:
- You get fair and steady pricing (no surprises from international fees)
- We avoid unnecessary delays
- Your materials meet Canadian safety standards
- And your investment stays right here in the local economy
🔌 Built Local. Built to Last.
We’re proud to be a small, independent business that puts people first—our customers, our team, and our suppliers.
So while tariffs might be a big issue elsewhere in the industry, our clients can relax knowing they’re working with a company that’s already built smart, local sourcing into every job.
